A wedding day disaster with your Houston disc jockey can be easily avoided if you follow a few key steps to ensure you have the proper entertainment for your event.

All DJ’s ARE the Same

A common misconception is that some brides believe all Houston DJ’s are the same, “they all play music right”?  While all DJ’s do play music, they each have their own unique talent.  It is important that you realize your Houston DJ is doing more than just playing music at your reception.  The DJ must coordinate the events so that it all runs according to plan.  This includes making announcements, working with the wedding coordinator or venue, and entertaining your guests so that they do not leave after the cutting of the cake.  This combined with ensuring you are in the right place at the right time for photographs is the whole reason you hire a professional Houston DJ.  A band is simply not capable of managing these duties.

How Much Do DJ’s Cost?

The price you pay for a Houston DJ varies greatly depending on where you live, but you should expect to pay anywhere from $500 - $2000 depending on the DJ talent, the equipment (ie Lights, Fog Machine, Bubble Machine, etc), and the time of year.  Top talent can get booked up to a year in advance so it’s important that you quickly determine how much you want to spend and begin looking ahead of time.  You should secure your venue and DJ first.  Be wary of a DJ that lowers his price to get your business.  Talented DJ’s have a set price for weddings and typically will not move much on the price.  Make sure you budget at least 5% for your disc jockey.  Keep in mind the cheapest DJ is not necessarily the best deal.

Get It in Writing

Professional disc jockey services will provide you with a contract that includes the price for everything included in the event.  Make sure you go over everything with the DJ at the pre-event consultation and that the contract includes the name and contact number of the DJ that will be at your event.   Ask if the DJ takes requests.  Ask if the DJ has backup equipment or backup DJ’s.  Whatever you want the Houston Wedding DJ to do be sure you put it in writing so that he/she will know exactly what is expected of them.

Planning, Planning, Planning

Most Houston DJ’s work well on a schedule of events so the more you can plan the better chance the event will go as intended.
